EDUCATION

DANCE EDUCATION FOR THE WHOLE SELF

BABEL YOUTH PROGRAM

THE BABEL YOUTH PROGRAM (BYP) partners with schools to use dance education as a tool for social-emotional-somatic learning (SESL), movement exploration, and self-expression. In our dance classes, students engage in self-reflection, deepen their understanding of their embodied experiences, and are equipped with the skills to share their stories through movement.

Our methodology prioritizes students’ somatic intuition as a guide for self-understanding and expressive development.

Our customizable programs feature developmentally appropriate curricula tailored to students’ age, ability, and your chosen class focus.

Class Options:

Social-Emotional-Somatic

Learning

SESL serves as the primary focus. Students receive prompts for self-reflection, which are subsequently transformed into creative movement & choreography.

Creative Movement

Movement is central to this class. Students learn dance techniques and apply them to explore SESL concepts and choreographic tools.

Choreography Lab

Choreography is priority of this class. Students are equipped with the tools to develop unique artistic voices and choreograph original works that reflect stories they want to share.

BABEL MENTORSHIP PROGRAM

NURTURING YOUNG ARTISTS

The BABEL Mentorship Program nurtures the social, emotional, and artistic development of BIPOC dancers aged 12 to 18 in Upper Manhattan. This free and intimate program selects seven talented dancers to form a cohort, allowing them to participate in private classes that give their artistry the attention it deserves. We use contemporary dance to empower students to develop self-awareness, build self-esteem, and share their story. By emphasizing dance as a tool for advocacy, community building, and storytelling, we invite young dancers to discover their artistic voices and nurture a new generation of self-aware artists and trailblazers committed to making a transformative societal impact.
